Constituency Review 2023

Aughton & Swallownest ward is currently within the Rother Valley constituency, and this will remain the case when the new Parliamentary constituency boundaries come into force.

Current arrangements

There is potential for the following housing developments:

• AUC: Approx 77 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 92
• AUF: Approx 15 properties, with an estimated polling station electorate increase of 18

(Acting) Returning Officer’s comments and proposals

1. The (Acting) Returning Officer is aware Aughton Early Years Centre would prefer not to be used as a polling place due to the impact on the school.  The (Acting) Returning Officer has investigated Windy Ridge Neighbourhood Centre as an alternative.  Whilst the building is suitable, it is on a steep hill and access to the building from the car park would require electors to walk up part of the hill or use a narrow footpath with steps.  There the (Acting) Returning Officer feels some electors may struggle to get to Windy Ridge Neighbourhood Centre.  Unfortunately, the (Acting) Returning Officer is not aware of any suitable alternatives and would welcome any suggestions that could be investigated.
2. The (Acting) Returning Officer is not aware of any other issues or concerns about the polling districts or polling places in Aughton & Swallownest ward and therefore does not propose any changes to the existing arrangements.
