Constituency Review 2023

Currently the SIH polling district is in the Rotherham constituency and the remainder of the ward is in the Rother Valley constituency.  Under the new Parliamentary constituency boundaries, all of Sitwell ward will be in the Rother Valley constituency.

Current arrangements

There is potential for the following housing developments:

• SID: Approx 149 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 178
• SIF: Approx 667 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 824
• SIG: Approx 219 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 240

(Acting) Returning Officer’s comments and proposals

1. The (Acting) Retuning Officer is aware there are proposed building works for SID polling place, at Newman School that could impact on the availability of Newman Additional Resource. If the building works take place at the time of an election, it may be necessary for the (Acting) Returning Officer to consider a temporary change to the polling place.
2. The (Acting) Returning Officer is aware that Whiston J & I School, polling place for SIE, have expressed a desire not to be used. However, the Returning Officer is not aware of any suitable alternative, as nearby polling places for neighbouring polling districts would not be big enough to accommodate the additional electors.  Therefore the (Acting) Returning Officer is not able to propose any changes, but welcomes suggestions for suitable alternatives
3. The (Acting) Returning Officer is not aware of any other issues or concerns about the polling districts or polling places in Sitwell ward and therefore does not propose any changes to the existing arrangements
