There is potential for the following housing developments:

  • DIC: Approx 62 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 76
  • DID: Approx 1,591 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 2,341
  • DIE: Approx 253 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 316
  • DIH: Approx 32 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 46

(Acting) Returning Officer’s comments and proposals

  1. Polling district DID exceeds the new recommended maximum allocated polling station electorate of 2,250 and also has the potential for significant housing development and therefore an increase in the electorate.

It is recommended that DID polling district be split into two new polling districts, with the new boundary running east to west along Outgang Lane and Doe Quarry Lane. The new polling district boundary will run along Outgang Lane, down Laughton Road and along New Street. The new poling district to the south will be named DID and the new polling district to the north will be named DII.

As the Dinnington Resource Centre is a suitable polling place with room to accommodate two polling stations, it is proposed that it be allocated as the polling place for the two new polling districts created by splitting the existing DID polling district. Until any developments are built, the current housing is located within reasonable distance of Dinnington Resource Centre. However, should the potential developments go ahead, the (Acting) Returning Officer may need to consider an interim review to consider any suitable locations that may be more conveniently located for the new DII polling district.

Given the large number of potential developments, the (Acting) Returning Officer will consider an interim review of the DII polling district once a significant proportion of the potential housing development has been built. It is not possible to split the polling district further at this time, as it is not possible to determine the best boundaries for the potential housing.

  1. The (Acting) Returning Officer notes that when taking into account the proposed housing developments in the DIE polling district, the forecast electorate is at the recommended maximum electorate.  The (Acting) Returning Officer will keep this under review and if necessary, carry out an interim review to consider changes to the polling district.
