Constituency Review 2023

All of the Greasbrough ward is within the Rotherham Parliamentary constituency and this will remain the case when the new Parliamentary constituency boundaries come into force.

Current arrangements

There is potential for the following housing developments:

• GRA: Approx 2,194 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 3,110

(Acting) Returning Officer’s comments and proposals

1. The polling station electorate for GRA slightly exceeds the new polling station recommended maximum electorate of 2,250.  Given the potential for significant housing development in this polling district, it would be too difficult to predict the best way to split the current polling district without the developments being underway.  The (Acting) Retuning Officer will carry out an interim polling district and polling places review when more of the potential development nears completion.

For the current electorate, as it only just exceeds the 2,250 recommend limit by less than 100 electors and the station turnout at the last Parliamentary election was only 43%, it is not proposed to make any changes to the polling district at this point in time.

2. The polling place for GRC, the Youth Centre at Wingfield Academy, is no longer available for use, and the school has to close on polling day to allow the use of the main school building. Due to this reason, the school has requested that an alternative venue be considered. 

The (Acting) Returning Officer has investigated using Forty Martyrs Church, but this has not been open since the COVID-19 pandemic and there are no current plans to reopen.No other suitable buildings have been found in the polling district, therefore the (Acting) Returning Officer is unable to propose any changes for this polling district.However, suitable suggestions are welcomed.
