Constituency Review 2023

Thurcroft & Wickersley South ward is currently within the Rother Valley Parliamentary constituency, and this will remain the case when the new Parliamentary constituency boundaries come into force.

Current arrangements

There is potential for the following housing developments:

• THA: Approx 209 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 239
• THB: Approx 40 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 51

(Acting) Returning Officer’s comments and proposals

1. When considering the potential new housing developments, the projected polling station electorate for the THA polling district may exceed the new recommended maximum.  As the projected figure is only just over 100 electors more than the recommended maximum and the turnout at the last Parliamentary election in 2019 was 70.2%, the (Acting) Returning Officer does not propose to make changes to the THA polling district at this time.  However, the polling district electorate will be monitored and if necessary, an interim review will be carried out to consider changes to the polling district.
2. The current THB polling district exceeds the new recommended number of electors to be allocated to a polling station. It is proposed that the current THB polling district to be split into two, with the new boundary running down the middle of Morthen Road, Woodhouse Green and Green Arbour Road.

The new polling district to the right of the new boundary will be named THB and the new polling district to the left will be named THC.

As there have been no issues with the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall and it is centrally located on the new boundary line between THB and THC, it is proposed that it would be the polling place for the new THB and THC polling districts.
